In this article we explain what a fintech executive search actually looks like at Evotym, from how candidates get approached and evaluated to test tasks and the offer.

Whether an Evotym recruitment partner has already reached out to you about an executive role, or you're simply curious how executive search works at Evotym before that first message arrives, here's a step-by-step look at how the process runs at our agency. It builds on the similar approach we take with fintech candidates more broadly, tailored here for executive-level hiring.
Usually, we post our clients' executive roles on Evotym Careers, so they're open to view and you can apply directly, the same way you would for any other role. More often though, our senior recruitment partners, or sometimes Evotym's Founder & CEO herself, reach out to candidates directly.
In these personal messages, we usually name the role, the scope of work, the type of company, the challenges you'd be solving, and why we think you'd be a great fit. If you're interested in moving forward, we schedule a first interview with an Evotym recruitment partner.
In the first interview, we cover:
We ask about this early because fit at the executive level goes beyond experience. It's also about whether you and the team you'd be working with actually think alike, and that becomes clear through a real conversation.
When we share your CV with a company, we care about your discretion. If you're not ready to tell your current employer that you're exploring new opportunities, we let the hiring manager know that in advance.
Once that conversation goes well and the company responds positively, we run reference checks before moving further, so it's worth thinking in advance about who you'd want to name and giving them a heads-up. We only contact people you've approved, and we don't reach out to your current employer.
Once you move forward to interviews with the company, we prepare you for what is coming: who you will be meeting, what they tend to focus on, and what the company is actually trying to solve with this hire. We also join interviews directly when it helps, sitting in alongside you and the company so you are not navigating it alone. After each round, we check in with you to hear how it went from your side, and we pass relevant feedback back to the company, so nothing gets lost between rounds.
"As we move into this stage, we share the company's name where we can, along with the information available about the role," says Dari Lenko, Recruitment Delivery Partner at Evotym. "We also give you time to prepare and look into the details yourself, and we're here to answer any questions along the way."
If a particular stage feels high stakes, whether that is a board interview or a conversation with a founder, we stay close enough to help. That might mean a short call beforehand to talk through what is on your mind, or simply being reachable if something comes up unexpectedly.
Depending on the role and company, we share a test task, if the company has one, before the final decision. An interview alone can't always show exactly how you approach an open problem, your way of thinking or your working style, while a test task lays it all out on paper.
Nobody is rushed through this. You get a fair, reasonable amount of time to complete it, and the company takes the same care reviewing your response.
Once a company is ready to make an offer, we work to align expectations on both sides early, well before anything is put in writing, so that when the formal offer lands, there are no surprises for you or for the company. We raise this early on our side too, and companies at this level are often genuinely flexible when it matters to a candidate, whether that means shifting a start date around the holidays or adjusting other terms to fit someone's personal situation.
Based on Evotym's internal data, closing an executive role in fintech usually takes around 2 to 2.5 months from the first conversation, though in some cases it can move faster.
Oleg found his current role as CMO through Evotym, and later left a review on Trustpilot about the experience.
He said he knew from the start that the role came directly from the company, something he valued after working with agencies that recycled roles pulled from other job postings.
He also said our recruiter stayed close throughout the process, checking in regularly, and left him to own his conversations with the company directly. He described it as fully supported: someone was always available and informed, and it still felt entirely like his own conversation with the company.
The process took about 6 weeks from first contact to offer, fast for a C-level search.
For us, that's the point of an executive search done well: clear, guided support through every step, from that first conversation to the offer.
At its core, executive search is about matching a leader to where a business is actually headed, beyond what a role needs on paper today. Every step here, from the first conversation to the reference checks and the test task, exists to help you check that alignment for yourself, so you can be confident the company's direction genuinely matches what you're looking for next.
